Frequently asked questions and answers for guests
Can I come to your practice?
Of course, we would be happy to see you! We are a rare club in Berlin that has men’s, women’s but also mixed training sessions for the adults. If you are completely new to field hockey, we might not be the right club for you, because we don’t have enough coaches to have practices for beginners, but if you’re just a bit rusty or haven’t played for over 10 years, you can still join our practice sessions. Our practice times are on the main page in the top right corner.
If you want to check out our Women’s practice please email damen@nsf-hockey.de or for the men’s practice email herren@nsf-hockey.de.
What equipment do I need to play?
To play field hockey you need a field hockey stick, some turf- or running shoes and preferably some shinguards and a mouthguard for protection. The club doesn’t provide you with equipment. But we can borrow you a stick for the first couple practices if you don’t want to buy one right away. Just ask us before you come to a practice to make sure we bring an extra stick. If you need to buy some field hockey gear, we recommend online shops like hockeyshop.de or hockeykiosk.de or you may find some equipment at Decathlon shops in Berlin.
Can I start as a beginner or if I played field hockey before?
Yes you can! We’re all just playing as a hobby. Some players may have played in higher divisions in the past but our teams are a wild mix of veterans and rookies. Some started playing from a young age, some at university. Unfortunately we don’t have the coaching capacities right now to teach you the sport completely from scratch. So if you’re completely new to the sport, we may not be able to accommodate your needs.
Do you speak English? ????????????????
Yes, we do. But most of the time we play hockey. Are you interested in playing hockey (again)? That’s great! If your German is still patchy, just send us an e-mail in English and we will respond to it anyway.
How do I join the club?
You can find the info and all necessary here
What do you do if you’re not playing field hockey?
Honestly we even have our own group chat for “non-curricular” activities.
Highlights are:
Bowling, BBQ at Tempelhofer Feld, traveling to summer tournaments, organizing our own tournaments, testing old and new bars around Neukölln, going to concerts or sporting events together and our annual Christmas party.
When can I join playing in league games?
The sooner you become a paying member the quicker we can get you the official player’s license from the Berlin Hockey Federation. Please reach out to office@nsf-hockey.de if you need any assistance.
Do I have to play regularly on weekends? What if I rather keep it chill?
Of course we would be happy to have you play with us at our league games, but it’s not mandatory for club members. If you don’t want to play in games, we may ask you though to pay the next round at the Christmas party. Just make sure to communicate your ambitions to the coaches or captains.
Do you have a youth devision?
Unfortunately we don’t have an active youth department at the club right now. Some kids play in cooperation with some Berlin-Neukölln schools.
Frequently Asked Questions and Answers for Members
I took some great photos or videos at our last practice or game. How can I get those posted on our Instagram?
Just email him at media@nsf-hockey.de or send us a DM on the gram @nsf.hockey.berlin
When and how do I pay my annual membership fee?
The fee is due within the first 8 weeks of the new year. Please send your money via bank transfer to:
Neuköllner Sportfreunde 1907 e.V.
BIC: Berliner Sparkasse BELADEBEXXX
IBAN: DE63 1005 0000 0190 6545 54
Verwendungszweck: Name, Vorname, Geburtsdatum
We can’t offer a SEPA payment at the moment.
You can find our current membership fees here.
I can’t pay the membership fee right now or I can’t afford the fees in general. What can I do?
The most important step is to inform our treasurer as soon as possible. If you don’t pay at all there might be some late fees. But if you ask us for assistance, we can either arrange a payment plan or in severe cases we can lower your fees. The membership fees are important to keep our club running, so it’s only fair that every member pays their share.
How can I cancel my membership?
It’s sad to see you leave. If you’re just leaving Berlin for a while you can lower your rate by changing into a passive membership. But if you really want to cancel please contact office@nsf-hockey.de. We have a 4 week notice period before the end of the year. So please message us in time before the end of the year.
